Apple has announced a new iMac featuring the M4 chip, along with updated versions of the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad that now include USB-C in place of Lightning.
The transition of accessories from Lightning to USB-C, which had been in use for keyboards and mice since 2015, is somewhat overdue—especially since all Mac desktop computers and laptops switched to USB-C as the primary connection port by 2018, along with iPads, and starting in 2023, iPhones and AirPods (this transition was prompted by EU regulators).
At the Apple Store, the new USB-C accessories can be ordered as standalone products—available in black and white colors. Overall, the prices remain unchanged compared to their Lightning-port predecessors: the updated Magic Mouse starts at $99, while the Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad are priced at $199 and $149 respectively.
It seems there haven't been any other design changes—the port on the Magic Mouse is still located at the bottom of the device, despite predictions otherwise.
Currently, the iPhone SE is the last major Apple device with a Lightning port, but this may change soon.
