Apple has unveiled updated iMac all-in-one computers featuring the M4 chip, along with enhanced capabilities for creativity and AI-driven tasks. The new model sports fresh case colors, increased RAM, and an improved camera.
The entry-level iMac is priced at $1299 and includes two Thunderbolt USB-C 4 ports. Higher-tier models start at $1499 and come with four USB-C ports.
It also includes Magic accessories, which now utilize USB-C charging ports instead of the Lightning connector. Like its predecessor, the new iMac is fitted with a 24-inch 4.5K display. However, Apple introduces a new nanofinish glass option for an additional $200, aimed at reducing glare.
The amount of RAM has doubled compared to the previous model — the base iMac now features 16 GB, upgradeable to 32 GB.
The all-in-one has a 12 MP Center Stage webcam and new Apple Intelligence features that support artificial intelligence. These include text composition and editing via AI, as well as an updated Siri voice assistant. Pre-orders for the new iMac begin today, with sales slated to start on November 8.
The computer comes in seven colors: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. The M4 iMac supports Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E.
The M4 chip made its debut alongside new iPad Pro models in May, but has only now made its way to the Mac lineup. According to Apple, the M4 processor in the new iPad Pro is built using "second-generation 3-nanometer technology." The company claims that the chip features up to 10 CPU cores and a 10-core GPU.
The announcement of the updated M4 iMac came just weeks after the surprise launch of the new iPad Mini.
