Jack Guynn, Senior Vice President of AMD and Head of Computing and Graphics, officially unveiled the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D boasts a frequency that is 500 MHz higher than the 7800X3D. This eight-core Zen 5 processor is the first in the new line of consumer chips to feature integrated 3D V-Cache, providing an additional 64 MB for enhanced performance in gaming and other tasks.
AMD confirms that this is the second generation of X3D, where the 8-core Zen 5 CCD (Core Complex Die) is placed above the cache memory. Jack Guynn confirmed that the 9800X3D will be the company’s first X3D chip to support overclocking, although he did not provide specific details.
AMD claims an 8% improvement in gaming performance compared to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The tests were conducted on a system with an X670 AORUS Master motherboard, 2×16 GB DDR5-6000 memory, and an NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics card. The performance gains range from 1% in Cyberpunk 2077 to 26% in Hogwarts Legacy.
Compared to the recently announced Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, the processor is on average 20% faster in gaming. These statistics are based on over 40 tested games, although not all of them are displayed in the chart. Specifically, AMD reports performance improvements in Cyberpunk 2077 of up to 59%.
The website AMD showcases the full specifications of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. These include a base clock speed of 4.7 GHz and a boost clock speed of 5.2 GHz. The TDP is rated at 120 W.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is compatible with all existing AM5 motherboards. The processor will be available on November 7, with a suggested retail price of $479.
