Despite Microsoft's significant overhaul of Bing with artificial intelligence, users are still reluctant to switch from Google to another search engine. As a result, the company has decided to attract new customers through a lottery, offering a prize of one million dollars this time.
According to journalist Windows Central Jess Corden, Microsoft has started sending emails notifying users about updates to Microsoft Rewards—a loyalty program that rewards participants with points for engaging with Microsoft products and services.
Points are awarded if you switch from Google to Bing, transition from Chrome to Microsoft Edge, play on Xbox Game Pass, or purchase software and services from the Microsoft Store. These points can then be redeemed for rewards (for example, to buy in-game items or Xbox Game Pass subscriptions). The updated program includes a lottery that will randomly select one lucky winner from all Microsoft Rewards participants to receive $1,000,000.
Participants must first register on the lottery website, where a maximum of 200 entries is allowed by completing a specific list of tasks (with switching from Google to Bing being one of them). At the same time, the lottery is available in a limited number of regions — the USA, Puerto Rico, Canada, the UK, France, and Germany.
In addition to the grand prize winner, users who come in second and third place will also be rewarded, each receiving $10,000; Microsoft also pledges to donate up to $500,000 to the World Wildlife Fund and UNICEF (specifically $5 for every participant who records more than 50 entries).
