The Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S electric vehicle boasts a promising claimed range of 709 km according to the WLTP cycle. However, the manufacturer now claims that the car can not only achieve this distance in real-world conditions but also significantly exceed the stated autonomy. During real-world testing, the Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S managed an impressive 794 km on a single battery charge, surpassing the nominal range by 12%.

The tests were conducted by the Volkswagen Team Switzerland. They took place on public roads near Zurich. The testing involved a team of eight drivers who took turns driving. The route covered 81 km and included a mix of highways, city streets, and rural roads of varying terrain, mimicking everyday driving conditions. Led by Felix Egolf, an expert in long-distance electric vehicle driving, the team completed the journey in 15 hours and 42 minutes, maintaining an average speed of 51 km/h. It is evident that highways comprised a significant portion of the testing. The average energy consumption of the Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S during the test was an impressive 10.3 kWh/100 km.

Volkswagen highlights that the vehicle used in the test was not even a specially optimized configuration of the ID.7 Pro S for long distances. It included additional features such as the Comfort package and the IQ.DRIVE assistance systems package.

Nonetheless, during the testing, the drivers operated the accelerator very cautiously. Most electric vehicle owners are unlikely to replicate this during their daily commutes.
