Ukraine is actively preparing infrastructure for the placement of F-16 fighters and security measures for their storage. This was reported by the spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ilya Evlash, during a telethon.
A representative of the Air Force says that in Ukraine, a set of measures has been developed to safely accommodate F-16 aircraft. At the same time, they will be able to efficiently and promptly perform combat missions. According to Evlash, with the appearance of F-16 fighters, the Ukrainian Air Force will be able to carry out various operations both in repelling air attacks and in neutralizing the positions of Russian occupiers.
"To do this, it is necessary to properly prepare the place of their deployment. These are colossal means, we are talking about underground storage facilities, bunkers. Therefore, methods are now being developed regarding how exactly they can be placed," Evlash explained.
The aircraft will be dispersed and located in places where they will be difficult to detect. Military personnel are preparing a set of methods that will mislead Russian intelligence.
Last week, at a meeting in "Ramstein," US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated that F-16s will start arriving in Ukraine "this year," along with already trained pilots and maintenance personnel. The New York Times reported in March that the aircraft will arrive this summer. Unfortunately, pilot training has been delayed, so the first to return will be 12 trained pilots. As for the fighters, the first batch will likely consist of 6 aircraft.
The main donors of F-16s for Ukraine will be Belgium, Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands. A total of about 45 aircraft are expected to arrive. In Denmark, approximately 50 technicians are also being trained to service the F-16s. It is expected that the fighters will be equipped with bombs and missiles of various ranges.
