A full-sized modern remake of the classic 8-bit computer, the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, is being prepared for release by Retro Games. The device is compatible with both the Spectrum 48K and 128K and features a USB port for loading games and other content.

The Spectrum computer has been designed using the iconic look of the Spectrum 48K, featuring rubber block keys and the classic rainbow stripe. "Out of the box," the device will offer 48 games and will allow easy additions. The new Spectrum 48K has appeared in listings on Polish and British online stores. The computer will be available on November 22 for £89 ($99).

While Retro Games does not have an official Spectrum webpage, images of the packaging and the computer itself are circulating online. In addition to USB, it will also feature an HDMI output, with other characteristics noted:

  • The Spectrum emulates the 48 and 128 models of the ZX Spectrum
  • Included: Spectrum computer, 1.8 m USB-C power cable (AC adapter not included), 1.8 m HDMI cable — 6 feet
  • Fully functional keyboard replica
  • 48 built-in games, including: Manic Miner, The Hobbit, and Head Over Heels
  • Multi-region 720 HD output via HDMI with compatibility for PAL (50Hz) and NTSC (60Hz)
  • Play in the original 4:3 format or other aspect ratios, with or without CRT filters and customizable frame size
  • Save games anywhere in one of four game slots and rewind gameplay by 40 seconds
  • Play your own games via USB flash drive compatible with multiple file types (TAP/TZX/PZX/SZX/Z80/SNA)
  • Four USB-A ports for additional controllers for multiplayer gaming and a USB flash drive

It’s worth noting that not only is a power adapter missing from the package, but no joysticks are mentioned either, which could be inconvenient. Some sources indicate that the official launch will take place this Tuesday, but the release of the device is still set for November 22.
