NIO has unveiled its new competitor to the Tesla Model Y — the Onvo L60. However, the Chinese electric crossover is offered at a significantly lower price.
The NIO Onvo L60 is marketed as a "smart family electric crossover" that sets a "new standard for family vehicles." It measures 4828 mm in length, 1930 mm in width, and 1616 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2950 mm, providing more interior space compared to its Tesla rival. NIO claims that its electric crossover achieves more efficient energy consumption than the Model Y (12.1 kWh/100 km versus 12.5 kWh/100 km).
Inside, the Onvo L60 closely resembles Tesla's best-selling model. The infotainment system features a 17.3-inch display, and the interior has a minimalist design. NIO also includes an 8-inch screen for rear seat passengers.
What stands out most about this model is its battery options and pricing. The base model is priced at $21,200. However, it is offered on a battery subscription basis. Owners can rent the vehicle's battery for $85 per month for a 60 kWh battery or $125 per month for an 85 kWh battery. The claimed range for the batteries is 555 km and 730 km (according to the CLTC method), respectively.
The manufacturer also offers standard "all-inclusive" vehicles. In this case, the NIO Onvo L60 with a 60 kWh battery is priced at $29,300. The cost of the version with an 85 kWh battery is set at $33,400. In the future, NIO also plans to introduce an Onvo L60 version with a 150 kWh battery, which will provide a range of 1000 km. Its estimated price has not yet been disclosed.
