Online game in The Elder Scrolls universe (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim) celebrated its tenth anniversary this week. Zenimax has collected $2 billion on it over 10 years. Along with the basic version of The Elder Scrolls Online with a fixed cost, there is a subscription that provides additional features, and you can also purchase separate chapters and other additional content. At the same time, the game does not disappoint with intrusive microtransactions, nor does it operate on the principle of "pay to win." As of the beginning of April 2024, ESO has 23.7 million users.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, studio director Matt Firor says that the $2 billion figure was announced "mostly to shed light on the game." According to Firor, ESO is not often named one of the most successful MMORPGs, but it is exactly that. In his words, even the connection of ESO with Skyrim rarely attracts attention, as is the case with World of Warcraft.

"I think [the figure] just shows the dedication of our players to the game, as well as to us at Zenimax Online. It's extremely successful, and we enjoy working on it," Firor says.

The Elder Scrolls Online celebrates its anniversary with a new chapter, "Gold Road," and various in-game promotions and bonuses. This is perhaps the biggest annual update for ESO, containing approximately 30 hours of new story content dedicated to the events of the new Daedric Prince Itelien, a character not seen before in the Elder Scrolls franchise.

In terms of gameplay, Gold Road offers new public dungeons, quests, world events, world bosses, new unique collectible items, and much more. However, the biggest actual change in gameplay is undoubtedly the new scribing system (skill creation). Grimoires, a new type of skill, have been added to the game, which you can acquire through the section questline to use in conjunction with existing skills. Skills from grimoires can be customized to create multiple additional ability variations.

Considering that The Elder Scrolls 6 from Bethesda won't be seen soon, the annually updated Elder Scrolls Online can be a good option for those who miss this universe.

The author of this news has spent many hours in the game and can say that there are more solo quests in it than in several ordinary RPGs combined, and they increase every year, new territories and gameplay mechanics constantly appear in it, it also contains a lot of information about the lore of the "Scrolls" universe.
