After 21 years, the canceled game "The Invincible Iron Man," which was being developed in 2003, surfaced online thanks to one of its former developers. Retired programmer Kevin Edwards, a former employee of GenePool Software, shared screenshots and videos of the game.

The Invincible Iron Man - the working title of the game, which, according to Edwards, was "canned by Activision" because the GenePool studio was closed. Development began after completing work on X2: Wolverine's Revenge, which was released on PS2, Xbox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, PC, and Mac in 2003. Unfortunately, the Iron Man game was never completed.

"We were about five to six months into the project with a completely new engine for PC, Xbox, and PS2," says Edwards.

But why was the game canceled? The developer explains that the team never heard the exact reason, but notes: "The movie delay was long, or maybe they didn't consider the game good enough, and therefore didn't want to finance it. Or maybe another developer was ready to take on the task."

It is unclear which delayed movie Edwards is referring to, although it is likely the animated movie about Iron Man with the same name, released in 2007. It is worth noting that the GBA game, which also has the same name, was launched at the end of 2002. Interestingly, it was also published by Activision, but it was developed by Torus Games.

Kevin Edwards plans to release more gameplay footage of The Invincible Iron Man in the coming days.
