One of the best surprises for PlayStation fans at the Sony State of Play presentation was the announcement of the new Astro Bot game. The bundled platformer Astro's Playroom of 2020 paid tribute to the history of PlayStation and showcased the DualSense controller technology. Astro Bot imitates a well-known game, the release of which will take place on September 6.
The character Astro Bot first appeared in The Playroom, a collection of AR mini-games pre-loaded on the PS4 console to demonstrate the capabilities of the DualShock 4 controller and the PlayStation camera. After that, he appeared in The Playroom VR, another bundle for PlayStation VR, which included a short platform game called Robot Rescue. It was expanded into a full-price game Astro Bot Rescue Mission, which was a PlayStation VR exclusive.
In the first trailer under the simple name Astro Bot, a charming little bot is shown fighting enemies to music. There are also references to numerous classic PlayStation games, as well as a lot of cameo appearances of characters from them.
Astro Bot will feature 80 levels, 6 galaxies, and multiple unique planets with diverse terrains. Over 15 new abilities will utilize the DualSense controller capabilities and there will be 70 new enemies.
"We'll soon be back with more details about the game, as well as pre-orders starting on June 7. In the meantime, turn on your DualSense, Team Asobi and Astro will take you on an unforgettable cosmic PlayStation adventure!" - says in the Sony blog.
