The game Star Wars Outlaws from Ubisoft has sold only one million copies worldwide a month after its release, which is significantly lower than the developers' expectations.
In comparison, another Ubisoft game, Assassin's Creed Mirage, reached sales of five million copies within three months after its launch. This highlights just how much lower the sales of Star Wars Outlaws were.
The poor sales can be attributed to several factors. While the early trailers and demonstrations amazed gamers with the prospect of exploring a vast open world with a new character and an original storyline, enthusiasm began to wane closer to the release. Gameplay videos released just before launch failed to generate the expected excitement among players, and Outlaws received criticism for its dull narrative and outdated effects.
After the game's release, numerous videos emerged that showcased the flaws in its stealth mechanics and various bugs. Although Ubisoft promptly released patches to address these issues, the game's reputation had already suffered.
The situation with Star Wars Outlaws also affected other Ubisoft projects. Specifically, the company has postponed the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows from November 2024 to February 2025, which is partly due to the unsatisfactory performance of Star Wars Outlaws.
