Amazon has launched a beta feature called X-Ray Recaps, which utilizes generative artificial intelligence to create "text summaries" for Prime Video series (as well as individual episodes or segments) — and the company promises that this update includes specific "safeguards" to help avoid spoilers in the descriptions.
This new feature is essentially an enhancement of the existing X-Ray service on Prime Video, which provides details about the cast when you pause a series.
To try out Recaps, users need to visit the show information page and select one of the available options:
- Get a brief summary of the watched episode
- Get a summary of the entire season
- Get a summary of the previous season
Currently, X-Ray Recaps is available in beta — exclusively for Fire TV users in the U.S., but Amazon promises to roll out the feature to other devices and then to additional countries by the end of the year.
The company states that X-Ray Recaps utilizes a "combination of specialized AI models" created using Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, analyzing video, subtitles, and dialogues to describe key events, conversations, and other information.
