This year, Google launched its Pixel 9 smartphone lineup without simultaneously updating Android. For almost the first time, the new Pixel smartphones debuted with a previous version of the operating system. Only now has the code for Android 15 officially entered the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) database.

Google announced that the update to Android 15 will be available for supported Pixel devices in the coming weeks. This includes the Pixel 6 models and later. Devices from other Android manufacturers will receive the software update in the coming months.

Android 15 is a minor update in the overall scheme of Android updates. New features include an updated volume panel, partial screen sharing with broadcasting, and the ability to use an Android device as a webcam for a PC.

At the same time, Google announced that it would be integrating AI into other areas of its ecosystem, including accessibility. TalkBack, the screen reading application for Android designed for visually impaired individuals, can now create “detailed audio descriptions” using Gemini.

Circle to Search is also receiving an update. This feature can now detect the music you're listening to and help identify the song. To activate it, you need to hold down the Home button or navigation pane and then press the music button to indicate that this is the sound you’re looking for. Gemini will provide the title of the track and the artist, as well as suggest YouTube videos for more information.

Additionally, users can now listen to web pages in Chrome. Android will allow you to choose your preferred playback speed, voice type, and language.

Wear OS users will be able to utilize offline maps. While traveling in an unknown area of the city, you can download a Google Map of the locality for reference on your smartwatch. Once the map is downloaded, you can pan it even if you accidentally leave your phone behind.

Furthermore, the scope of Google's earthquake alerts has been expanded. This system is now available in all states, including six territories covered by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
