The multifunctional camera button on the Apple iPhone 16 has posed a challenge for Android smartphone manufacturers. Some are already developing a similar feature.
President of Nubia, Ni Fei, stated on the social media platform Weibo that the upcoming Nubia Z70 Ultra will feature an improved camera button. He also confirmed to a follower that it will be a two-stage key, which will control focus with a half-press and take a photo with a full press.
Sources report that the OPPO Find X8 will introduce a so-called quick button for "freezing action." It remains unclear whether this will be a standard physical shutter button or if it will support gestures. Apple's camera control key is a two-stage button that also recognizes finger gestures for various functions.
The head of Realme posted a video showcasing a camera button on one of the brand's phones. Check it out below. It appears to be the most advanced and well-prepared camera button option available on Android.
Similar to the iPhone 16, users can swipe on the button to zoom in or tap it to take a picture. This isn't the first time the brand has imitated something from Apple; they previously created a version of Dynamic Island and attempted to replicate MagSafe technology (though the MagDart ecosystem was commercially released).
Sony has long offered a two-stage camera button on its new Xperia 1 VI smartphones and earlier models. However, gestures serve as a convenient enhancement to the button's capabilities, which arguably attract considerable attention.
