A new test version of Windows has revealed hints of a feature for searching through audio and video content. Developers have dubbed it "intelligent media search."
This information surfaced in update 27695 for the Windows 11 Insider Canary Channel. User X under the handle @XenoPanther was the first to spot references to this new tool. According to him, the "intelligent media search" feature will transcribe all audio and video files on Windows devices, making spoken words searchable within the operating system.

This feature could be beneficial when needing to locate information in a meeting recording or find a lost spot in an audiobook. Although the tool is not yet available in any version, developers have already included a reference to it, likely preparing for its rollout.
The feature's description indicates that users will have to consent to the scanning of media files on their devices. If necessary, the system will download and install the required model in the background. After setup, the AI model will transcribe the media files and index them before enabling content-based search.
The new feature resembles Recall — a tool intended to take screenshots every few seconds, making everything the user viewed on their computer easily searchable. Due to privacy concerns, the implementation of Recall was postponed, but Microsoft plans to bring it back to test versions in October.
To function, Recall requires a computer compatible with Windows Copilot+, equipped with a neuroprocessor boasting at least 45 TOPS and between 25 to 150 GB of free disk space. It remains unclear whether the "intelligent media search" will have similar hardware requirements.
