Intel is once again privately demanding that motherboard manufacturers adhere to the recommended default profile for processors. This time, the company is asking to add a BIOS option with the name "Intel Default Settings" and make it enabled by default.
Recently, there has been a known issue with Intel Raptor Lake-S 13 and 14 generations processors with unlocked overclocking that have performance issues in games. The company believes that this is due to partners not following the recommended specifications for the chips. Here is Intel's message to manufacturers:
"Intel Corporation is asking system and motherboard manufacturers to provide end users with a default BIOS profile that conforms to Intel's recommended settings. - Proposed profile name is "Intel Default Settings". - Intel Corporation requests customers to implement the "Intel Default Settings" profile as the default BIOS profile by May 31, 2024. Intel Corporation strongly recommends that default BIOS settings operate within Intel's recommended settings."
Intel has also provided specific restrictions, particularly for the Intel Core i9-14900K processor.
Motherboard manufacturers have actually implemented or are in the process of implementing the recommended settings. In particular, they have removed the actual power limit (4000W) that some boards were using. It was often cited as the reason for incorrect operation.
