The YouTube Music app for Android is rolling out a feature that has long been requested - hum and find a song. You can sing, whistle, or play a recording of a song to find it.
If the feature is working, after clicking search in the top right corner of the app, an icon in the shape of a signal graph will appear next to the microphone icon. After clicking on it, the app will start listening.
YouTube Music quickly and accurately searches for played compositions. If you hum, most songs can also be found quite accurately, but there are also misses. This may depend on singing ability and hearing.
The deployment of the feature is currently ongoing for Android users with app version 7.02, iOS users may soon join, according to some reports, deployment on iPhone has already begun. This feature is not entirely new for Google, it debuted in search back in 2020 and found its way into the main YouTube app last year.
Integration into YouTube Music should significantly improve the experience, as people often remember the melody, not the title or lyrics of a song. You won't have to suffer trying to remember a viral melody heard somewhere - just grab your smartphone when it's playing somewhere, and find it.
