Google has announced the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 wireless earbuds, which are 27% smaller, lighter, and feature twice as powerful active noise cancellation compared to the previous model.
Google's engineers have significantly enhanced the active noise cancellation (ANC). The new model is better at filtering high-frequency sounds, nearing the efficacy of solutions from Bose. This has been made possible by the new Tensor A1 chip, which Google designed specifically for this model.
The sound quality of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 has also undergone considerable improvements. The earbuds are equipped with 11-millimeter drivers, and the multi-channel processing on the Tensor A1 chip adds an extra signal pathway for music without compromising sound quality when noise cancellation is activated.
The charging case retains its previous shape but now features a built-in speaker. This will make it easier to locate lost earbuds using the enhanced Find My Device network. The earbuds themselves have an IP54 rating for dust and moisture protection.
Google has updated the Clear Calling algorithms to enhance voice call quality. The earbuds now support conversation detection— they will automatically pause music playback and activate transparency mode when they detect the user's voice.
The battery life of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 reaches 8 hours of continuous listening with ANC activated, or up to 30 hours with charging from the case. The earbuds support Bluetooth 5.4 and LE Audio but still lack high-bitrate codecs such as LDAC or AptX Adaptive.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 will be available for purchase on September 26, priced at $229.
