Many Android smartphones come with Google Messages set as the default messaging app. However, Samsung has long followed its own path by using Samsung Messages. This situation is changing as the company has announced a transition to a new pre-installed messaging application.
The news was shared through the Samsung Members app:
“Starting with the Flip 6, Fold 6, and newer models, the Samsung Messages app will no longer be pre-installed. Instead, Google Messages will provide a new and improved experience for expressing your emotions, making communication safe and enjoyable.”
At the same time, it is reported that users can still download Samsung Messages from the Galaxy Store. It is also noted that “some features will be excluded.” There is no word on which features will be cut.
Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority pointed out that Samsung Messages remains the default app for the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 in Canada and Europe. This indicates that the change currently only affects devices in the United States.
Samsung has not yet commented on the request regarding its decision to drop Samsung Messages as a pre-loaded app in favor of the Google client.
