The CEO of Qualcomm, Cristiano Amon, has confirmed the presence of Snapdragon processors for desktop computers. Details about these processors will be revealed at the company's upcoming conference.
This is not Amon's first statement of this kind, as he discussed various PC formats back in June. Qualcomm has also confirmed the compatibility of their processors with discrete graphics cards. During the presentation of the octa-core Snapdragon X Plus, Cristiano Amon positively responded to a question regarding the potential creation of a Snapdragon chip for desktop PCs:
“The first thing we did was launch the X Elite. Then we released the X Plus and a 10-core processor. Today, we're launching the 8-core Plus processor to differentiate pricing. You will see us with many designs for desktop computers, mini-PCs, and ultimately, it won’t surprise you that we're still considering high-performance desktop computers. We are on this journey. As I mentioned, we are here to stay.”
The Qualcomm CEO also hinted at closer collaboration with Chromebook, which John Solomon from Google mentioned back in June. Amon promised to provide more details at the investor conference in November, where he will discuss the future of the Snapdragon platform. “Stay tuned for November,” Amon said.
The company is quite optimistic about the success of the platform for computers, despite software compatibility issues and still high prices. Earlier, Cristiano Amon mentioned a goal of having 50% of PCs on ARM within five years. However, AMD and particularly Intel are also active, already offering processors that meet modern challenges.
