Apple is likely no longer interested in working on a new high-end Vision headset against the backdrop of slowing sales of the first Vision Pro model. However, Apple is clearly looking for ways to reduce the cost of components for the first model and is working on a cheaper Vision headset that is planned to be released by the end of 2025.

The first version of Vision Pro was released earlier this year, and although it is a very good virtual reality headset, it has many shortcomings inherent in many other similar headsets. It is also expensive - priced from $3499. And it is quite heavy as well.

Apple is trying to address some of these shortcomings by developing a new, cheaper version of the Vision headset, currently codenamed N109. In this device, the company aims to retain the high-resolution displays that distinguish Vision Pro, but removes some features and makes it "at least a third lighter". Apple wants to offer a cheaper version of the headset at a price comparable to a high-end iPhone. In October of last year, Bloomberg reported that Apple aims to achieve a price range from $1500 to $2500. However, the company has had difficulties in cutting costs without compromising too much on features, so a cheaper headset may not reach this target until 2025.

Meanwhile, Apple continues to push forward with Vision Pro. The company plans to start international sales of the headset by the end of June and add several new features in visionOS 2 this fall.
