Google has confirmed the release timeline for Pixel smartphones to receive the Android 15 update. Previously, rumors hinted that this would not happen in September.
Unofficial sources reported yesterday that Google will launch Android 15 on Pixel devices next month as the company is working on improving stability. Instead, Google is planning the update for October, likely around the middle of the month. The company has just effectively validated this information.
A few hours ago, Google updated the release notes for the beta version of Android, which is being sent to devices that opted out of the beta testing program. The revised release notes state that users awaiting the stable Android 15 update should "ignore [the downgrade] OTA until Android 15 is available in October."
As this information can only come from Google, it essentially confirms plans to release the Android 15 update for Pixel in October. However, Google had previously declined to confirm the rumors regarding the October update to Android Authority.
This announcement is significant, as many users who opted out of the beta testing program have been looking forward to a timely stable update. Now they will have a general idea of how long they need to disregard the OTA version of Android 14.
Google plans to release the stable Android 15 update for the following Pixel devices:
- Google Pixel 6
- Google Pixel 6 Pro
- Google Pixel 6a
- Google Pixel 7
- Google Pixel 7 Pro
- Google Pixel 7a
- Google Pixel Tablet
- Google Pixel Fold
- Google Pixel 8
- Google Pixel 8 Pro
- Google Pixel 8a
- Google Pixel 9
- Google Pixel 9 Pro
- Google Pixel 9 Pro XL
- Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold
It is also unofficially reported that Google will open the source code for Android 15 to developers next week.
