The social network X (Twitter) has expanded support for access keys authentication and made this option available to iPhone users worldwide. The company first launched support for access keys for iOS users in the United States in January. Now, the X Safety account has confirmed the global rollout of this feature, providing a larger number of people with the opportunity to use an alternative authentication method.

Access keys are considered more secure than traditional passwords because they are not vulnerable to phishing or social engineering schemes. They are also resistant to theft during authentication. When users activate and set up an access key for login, they create a pair of keys that will serve as their credential for digital authentication. The service offering the login option only has access to one of these keys, which then must be paired with another key stored locally on the user's device to verify their identity. The user only needs to confirm that they are requesting access to their account, using biometric authentication or device password.

To activate access keys in X, users will need to launch their iOS app, then go to "Settings and Privacy" in the "Your Account" section. In the "Security and Account Access" section, they can find the "Additional Password Protection" with the "Access Key" option.

Unfortunately, X does not report whether and when this option will be available to Android users.
