Apple is changing the name of Apple accounts from Apple ID to (possibly a simpler option) Apple Account. These changes are happening with the release of the company's new operating system versions.
"With the releases of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11, Apple ID has been renamed to Apple Account for a unified sign-in to Apple services and devices, relying on the user's existing account information," Apple said.
This change is not an absolute surprise, as corresponding rumors were circulating early this year. And although Apple IDs have been around for a long time, the name Apple Account seems much clearer than Apple ID.
In its publication, Apple also detailed several changes that will occur in other company services this fall. Apple Maps users will be able to view hikes in U.S. national parks. Users will be able to send and receive money through Apple Cash by simply placing two iPhones near each other. This will allow sharing money without exchanging personal information, such as a phone number. At the same time, Fitness Plus is getting an updated design, including "For You" recommendations.
