Volkswagen has started pre-sales of the updated Golf in Europe by launching the Edition 50 model. This special edition is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the debut of the original iteration of the hatchback.

At the same time, it also serves as a distraction from the increased prices of the updated model range, which now start at 27,180 euros, as reported by Carscoops. The Golf Edition 50 is based on the top Style trim, featuring several distinctive attributes marking this important milestone. Some noticeable additions include the 50 badges on the pillars, Edition 50 emblems on the side sills and steering wheel, as well as exterior changes like 18-inch Leeds alloy wheels, LED strip on the radiator grille, and tinted rear glass. Inside, details include pedals made of matte stainless steel and black seat upholstery.

The standard equipment includes the flagship 12.9-inch Discover infotainment system with navigation, keyless access, the IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration, an anti-theft alarm, and the option to select driving profiles. For those who want more, there is an optional Plus package available, adding a panoramic sliding roof, a display on the windshield, and matrix LED headlights.

In addition to the special edition, VW announced the full model range series, which includes the entry-level Golf, the mid-range Life, and the flagship Style. Visiting the German configurator shows that the base model comes with 15-inch steel wheels, although it has features like LED headlights and a wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto system.

VW confirmed that in the future, "further derivatives and drive systems" will be introduced. They are likely to include enhanced plug-in hybrids that will significantly increase zero-emission range, and a turbo diesel that will make a final appearance before being phased out. The launch of more powerful versions of the Golf GTI and the future Golf R is also expected, in which the mechanical gearbox will definitely disappear.

The updated VW Golf is now available for pre-order in European markets. In Germany, prices start at 27,180 euros for the base Golf hatchback and 28,280 euros for the Golf Variant. This indicates a price increase compared to the previous model, explained by the level of inflation and additional features.

As for the high-tech VW Golf Edition 50, its price starts at 36,820 euros, and it will only be available with more powerful 1.5-liter engines.
