The head of the passenger direction at JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia," Alexander Pertzovsky, informed Forbes Ukraine that the old website for purchasing and reserving tickets at booking.uz.gov.ua will cease operations this fall.
These functions will transition to a new website and the UZ mobile application (third-party ticket purchasing services will also be available). The new version of the website will be accessible under the old domain, but users will still be able to access the old site.
Currently, the company sells about 85% of tickets online. Pertzovsky claims this is "one of the highest rates in Europe."
Two years ago, "Ukrzaliznytsia," in collaboration with Mastercard, launched its own mobile application for ticket sales, and in May 2024, the new website at booking-new.uz.gov.ua went live.
Additionally, as noted by Forbes, the UZ team is currently developing a new model for adjusting passenger transportation tariffs, particularly for SV and "Intercity+." One proposal includes a moderate annual increase in base fares to account for inflation, while another suggests that ticket prices will depend on the popularity of routes and the time of day.
"Ukrzaliznytsia" has also appealed to the government to lift state price regulation on SV class tickets, arguing that "despite the high cost, they are selling out the quickest."
The last price increase for tickets occurred in December 2023, with prices rising by 3-72%. In the first six months of 2024, "Ukrzaliznytsia" transported 13.3 million passengers, marking a 23% increase compared to the previous year. June recorded record figures: 100,000 passengers per day and 2.5 million overall for the month.
