The social network X (formerly Twitter) has confirmed the possibility of creating adult communities (NSFW, not safe for work) on the platform, rumors of which emerged the day before. According to changes in X Communities:
"Soon NSFW content will be automatically filtered in all communities. Now administrators can set 'Adult Content' in settings to avoid automatic content filtering."
Communities X (X Communities) are groups in X with their own feeds outside the main feed. The changes confirm previous tests of NSFW communities, noted by researchers and reverse engineers. Explicit content plays an important role on X, which is a hub for hosting ads for sex workers, as well as a large amount of bots and spam focused on adult content.
According to internal documents obtained by Reuters in 2022, approximately 13% of all posts on Twitter are explicit photos and videos. Furthermore, adult content is one of the genres growing the fastest on the platform, especially against the backdrop of declining news and sports. If X succeeds in making Communities a successful product, the network could become a competitor to forums like Reddit.
X is also adding a "Ban" button in communities next to the "Save" and "Hide" buttons on the message page. Users can send messages with a detailed explanation of the ban reasons, there are temporary bans, tools to sort messages by "Popular," "Latest," and "Most popular"; a "Media" tab for communities for Android, as well as many other minor improvements and bug fixes.
