To celebrate the eleventh anniversary of Telegram, the popular messaging app announced a range of new features. Among these are star reactions and subscriptions, paid media, a new messaging mode on behalf of other channels, and more.
Star Reactions
Users will be able to directly support content creators by sending Telegram stars through emojis. Channels receive 100% of the stars, which can be converted into Toncoin or used for advertising.
Every message with stars displays the leaders in star likes, but users can choose to opt-out of being featured.
Star Subscriptions
With just a few clicks, users can create a separate channel for additional content, early access to media, or exclusive broadcasts. It will also be easy to set up a paid link.
Paid Media Available for Bots
Channels will be able to post paid photos and videos. After the update, bots, including admin bots in channels and on business accounts, will also have this capability. This will assist in automating channels and business processes — for instance, it will enable the creation of ongoing services.
Super Channels
Typically, channel readers see the name of the channel rather than the name of the content author. Now administrators can publish posts both as themselves and on behalf of the channel. The authorship of a post can be altered at any time afterward.
Document Viewer on iOS
On iOS, documents such as .pdf, .xls, or .docx can be opened in separate tabs within the built-in browser for easy switching between them and chats.
The update is currently available for all iOS users and for Android users who installed the app from the Telegram website. The new version will appear on Google Play as soon as it is moderated by the company.
