A 17-year-old Ukrainian developer Taras Ivanov from the city of Selidovo in the Donetsk region created the service "Free Video Translator" - it translates and voices over videos from YouTube into Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar languages for free.

It operates through a Telegram bot, reports Mezha.

The goal of the translator is to "give everyone the opportunity to watch videos in languages they do not understand for free, quickly, and with minimal effort."

The developer shared the very first version of the translator on his channel on June 22, 2023. According to him, at that time it was just a console program on his PC that was not available to other people.

However, users liked it, and the first public version appeared on August 2, 2023.

Principle of Operation

The operation principle of the "Free Video Translator" is detailed on the website.

To use the service, you need to:

  • go to the Telegram bot;
  • send it a YouTube link;
  • get the translation ready in a few minutes.

There is no need to register, provide an email address, or phone number to use the bot.

Currently, the translation into Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar is available from almost any language. This is possible thanks to the use of not just one, but three translators and a large language model.

In the future, the developer plans to create similar bots in other messengers and social networks for convenience and greater accessibility.

According to him, as soon as he also implemented automatic summarization of videos - to understand the main idea of the video, it is not necessary to watch it.

Currently, the "Free Video Translator" is supported solely by donations and mainly funded by the developer's own resources, who is currently finishing the 11th grade and continues to improve the project.
