Wikipedia was compelled to lock the Silent Hill 2 Remake page after repeated instances of "vandalism" from editors who refuse to acknowledge that the re-release of the iconic horror game by Konami received positive reviews from critics this week.
Outright falsehoods about the game's ratings and its scores on Metacritic, including one edit that claimed the game "received the worst possible reviews," led to the page being switched to a semi-protected status. This makes it impossible for unregistered users to make changes and spread unfounded claims. For instance, one claim suggested that Eurogamer rated the game 0 out of 5 stars, whereas in reality, it received the highest rating.

It remains unclear what exactly motivated these edits. Some speculate that it is related to the discourse surrounding the game's "progressiveness" due to changes in character facial features and clothing. Others believe discontent from fans regarding the fact that the Silent Hill 2 remake was developed by Bloober Team, or even the mere existence of the game's re-release, could be the cause.
Although little time has passed since the release and currently only buyers of the deluxe edition with early access can play (which may lead to biased positive ratings), Silent Hill 2 Remake already has a status of "very positive" among user reviews on Steam.
