Sony will soon begin selling refurbished PlayStation 5 consoles at a reduced price through its official store PlayStation Direct. However, they won't be very inexpensive.
Refurbished consoles are devices returned to Sony for various reasons. These can include both defective units and those that customers simply unboxed, changed their minds about, and returned for a refund. Such consoles cannot be sold as new anymore.
The price for a refurbished PlayStation 5 with a disc drive will be $399.99, which is $100 less than a new console priced at $499.99 in the same store. The cost of refurbished DualSense controllers will range from $60 to $65 depending on the color.
Sony assures that each refurbished PlayStation 5 is meticulously cleaned, tested, and prepared for its new owner. The company guarantees 100% quality for the PlayStation. "You will receive a product that functions like new, with original PlayStation parts. It has been thoroughly cleaned, checked, and tested," states Sony's announcement.
The refurbished console package includes all necessary accessories, cables, and instructions. The product is shipped in a special box marked "Certified Refurbished." Sony offers a 12-month warranty on each console, although it does warn of potential minor cosmetic blemishes.
This news comes shortly after Sony announced the release of the PlayStation 5 Pro. The new console model will be available for sale on November 7 at a price of $699. This way, the company provides options for different categories of buyers—from those seeking the best performance to those looking to save money.
