Microsoft is working on two new gaming consoles for the next generation. This was reported by Windows Central, citing its own sources.

The company will continue its strategy of releasing two different console versions. Microsoft is developing a traditional home console that will succeed the Xbox Series X, designed to compete with the upcoming PlayStation 6. At the same time, Microsoft is planning to create a handheld console, which sources from Windows Central refer to as its "own version of the Steam Deck." This move will allow the company to tap into the rapidly growing portable gaming device market.

The launch of the portable Xbox console coincides with the anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2 next year. Experts speculate that Microsoft may allow third-party store installations on its device, similar to the setup on the Steam Deck. However, it’s also possible that the company will opt for a more closed ecosystem, akin to that of the Nintendo Switch.

There have been no official announcements regarding the future consoles from Microsoft yet. However, the company hinted recently that it is "working diligently on the next generation" of devices.

This year, Microsoft plans to release three new versions of its consoles. Among them are the Xbox Series X with a 2 TB storage, a fully digital version of the Xbox Series X without an optical drive, and the Xbox Series S with a 1 TB storage.
