The source reports that Android 16 Baklava will debut at the Google I/O 2025 conference. This time, Google is not following the alphabetical order for version names.

Android 15 has yet to be released on Google Pixel phones (although it has been seen on some Vivo devices), while the company is already working on Android 16. Google has a habit of using dessert names: Android 14 was called "Upside Down Cake," and Android 15 was dubbed "Vanilla Ice Cream Cake." Android 16 has the codename "Baklava."

Previously, Google adhered to an alphabetical order in the codenames for Android 14. The next name should have started with "W," but something went awry. With the development of Android 16 underway, the company has set a codename for the platform's SDK version. In the AOSP Android version, the min_sdk_version field has been set to Baklava.

For reference, the min_sdk_version for Android 15 was initially set to VanillaIceCream. Once the OS reached its first stability milestone, the name was changed from VanillaIceCream to Android 15.
