The specialized resource DOU analyzed the lives and work of Ukrainian IT professionals in 2024, creating an average profile of a specialist.

The median age of a Ukrainian IT worker is currently 30 years (up from only 26 in 2015). The youngest professionals tend to be in Data Science and Data Engineering at 28 years old, while the oldest are high-level technical specialists, CTOs, or Directors of Engineering at 35 years old.

The proportion of married Ukrainian IT workers has also increased (likely due to the rising median age and overall number of specialists) — currently, it stands at 62.7%.

Despite the growing percentage of women in the Ukrainian IT sector (14% in 2015 compared to 26% this year), men still significantly outnumber women, making up 74% of the workforce in 2024.

The majority of Ukrainian IT professionals live in Kyiv (42%). At the same time, many specialists from the capital and smaller cities have relocated to western Ukraine, particularly Lviv, contributing to its increased representation (18%, securing the second position in the ranking).

Meanwhile, the desire to emigrate among IT workers has intensified in 2024 — 15% are ready to leave if the opportunity arises, while 44% plan to stay in the country (the others are considering leaving but have no concrete plans or would leave with the option to return).

As for salaries, they have risen in 2024, primarily due to the increasing share of experienced Senior+ specialists. This year, bonuses have decreased, with only 23% of IT professionals receiving them.

29.3% of specialists spend all their earnings, while the remaining 61.3% are able to save money.

75% of IT workers actively participate in fundraising for the Armed Forces of Ukraine — a significant figure, albeit lower than in the previous two years. As mentioned earlier, the average donation reaches $188.
