The Raspberry Pi is well-suited for creating portable PCs due to its compact size, support for external devices, and the ability to design a sleek case. The development team at Soulcircuit has constructed the Pilet, a modular pocket PC based on the Raspberry Pi 5.
This is a fully functional portable device, which includes an external keyboard module with a joystick. However, the work on the PC is ongoing, so the final assembly details are still unknown. Currently, the Soulcircuit team has assembled an engineering prototype with plans to produce the device for under $200.
The Raspberry Pi 5 at the core of the PC is powered by two 8000 mAh batteries and offers a battery life of around 7 hours. The Pilet features a metal back cover and a fan for improved heat dissipation. It supports NVMe SSD storage and the Hailo-8L module, which includes AI capabilities.
In the videos and photos, the Pilet runs on the Raspberry Pi OS but supports other distributions as well. Information is currently limited: the official Soulcircuit website provides a software guide, a hardware reference, and module instructions, although the links do not contain any documents yet.
