After several months of teasers, HMD has finally unveiled its Barbie-style flip phone — the HMD Barbie Phone. The device is reminiscent of the Nokia 2660 Flip but features a significantly updated design and several software enhancements.
As expected from a Barbie phone, shades of pink, red, and raspberry play a key role in its design. The phone comes equipped with a pink removable battery with a capacity of 1450 mAh, a matching pink USB-C cable, a cleaning cloth in the same color, and several other accessories. These include two interchangeable back covers, a beaded phone strap, charms for the phone, and Barbie stickers.
The HMD Barbie Phone sports a 2.8-inch main display and a 1.77-inch external display. It is powered by the Unisoc T107 processor, has 64 MB of RAM, and offers 128 MB of internal storage. A microSD card slot allows for an additional 32 GB of storage. Furthermore, the phone features a VGA camera (0.3 MP), Bluetooth 5 wireless connectivity, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a USB-C port for charging and data transfer.
The device runs on the S30+ operating system in most markets, while a version with KaiOS will be released for the USA. HMD has tailored the phone's interface with custom icons, wallpapers, and ringtones in the Barbie style. Additionally, the Barbie phone includes a digital wellness tips feature, the Barbie Meditation app, and self-care reminders.
The HMD Barbie Phone is now available for purchase at a price of $129, €129, or £99. The American version with KaiOS is set to launch in October.
