Another issue, less severe than a smartphone failure, has hit Google Pixel owners. Some Pixel smartphones experience system crashes when using Spotify, which can be "cured" by rebooting.
Google Pixel owners report that their phones suddenly fail while using Spotify. At the start of song playback, smartphones enter a cyclic crash. It appears that the phones do not shut down, but the system crashes with a message "system UI isn't responding," in some cases Pixel returns to the lock screen. Manual restart (long press of the power button) stops the cycle.
It seems that the issue affects Pixel 6, 7, and 8 phones, but it is unclear which software versions are involved. On Pixel 8 Pro with Android 14 and Spotify v8.9, the issue could not be reproduced. It was also found that clearing the application data and Spotify cache temporarily solves the problem - indicating that the music service is the cause.
Spotify claims to be aware of user complaints and is looking for a solution. Yesterday, Spotify began rolling out an application update, which could potentially be the cause, but complaints started appearing on July 1. Some users also note that similar issues have occurred in the past, but not as widely.
It is likely that a fix will not be long in coming, temporarily you can try to uninstall Spotify and download an older version of the application. Disabling Spotify notifications also temporarily resolves the issue for some reasons.
