Next-generation AMD Ryzen desktop processors based on the Zen 6 architecture will remain compatible with the AM5 socket and are expected to debut in about two years.

The AMD Zen 5 processor line is still far from exhausted—in fact, it's just gaining momentum. Nevertheless, information about the upcoming Zen 6 architecture has surfaced before. In May, it was revealed that the AMD Ryzen Zen 6 chips will potentially feature up to 32 cores on a single CCD. Currently, the same informant, @Kepler_L2, has reported that AMD Zen 6 chips are set to launch in late 2026 or early 2027.

This indicates that AMD will unveil the Zen 6 lineup either in the fourth quarter of 2026, during CES 2027, or possibly within a month or two thereafter. When asked which socket will be utilized for Zen 6, Kepler stated it would be AM5. This means that the AM5 socket will support at least three generations since its inception. The socket for Intel's Panther Lake or Nova Lake remains uncertain, and it is also unclear if these will even be released for desktops.

No information exists yet regarding the AM5 socket for AMD Zen 7, but the AM4 socket has endured for nearly 10 years. AMD will not face any memory issues in these two years and beyond, as DDR6 is not expected to appear in PCs before 2027.
