Kia aims to increase its market share by launching a series of more affordable electric vehicles. Some models, such as the new EV3, are already on the market, but Kia is determined to make electric cars even more economical. This goal is expected to be achieved through a new entry-level model priced around €20,000.

During a test drive of the Kia EV3, CEO Ho-Sung Song mentioned that the company is looking to introduce an entry-level electric vehicle priced at approximately $22,200 (€20,000). Kia has registered trademarks for models ranging from EV1 to EV9, indicating the potential for launching cheaper electric vehicles at a lower tier than the EV3. Currently, the starting price for the EV3 is about €35,000.

Song stated that the entry-level electric car is the "next target for the brand," as it is likely to lower the barrier for beginning to drive electric.

Kia has already confirmed that it will rollout the EV2 model costing around €30,000 within the next three years. A potentially even cheaper version might be named EV1. However, the arrival of this budget model will still take some time.

“This is not likely to happen within the next two years,” added the CEO of Kia.

According to Song, an electric vehicle priced below €20,000 will probably not be available until 2030. As new battery technologies and electric vehicle drivetrains emerge, Kia plans to continue to drive down prices.

Song also confirmed that Kia is developing solid-state batteries, which appear “much better in every respect” than the current electric vehicle battery technology. However, the Kia executive did not specify when the company would release vehicles with solid-state batteries.
