During the setup of Windows 11, users usually need to sign in to a Microsoft account - some users are unhappy with such requirements, and now Elon Musk has joined them.

"When I just bought a new laptop, I'm not allowed to use it until I create a Microsoft account, which also means giving their AI access to my computer! Previously, this could be skipped," the outraged billionaire wrote.

In the comments, users immediately began to share their own simple tips on how to bypass Microsoft's requirement - one of which involves disconnecting from the Internet. A similar note via Community Notes (a feature in X that allows users to fact-check publications) also appeared on Musk's post.

"Community Notes can't handle it. That option no longer exists," Musk replied to this and, judging by the comments, even wrote a letter to the head of Microsoft.

In the end, about an hour later, the billionaire finally admitted his mistake, noting that he couldn't skip the requirement because his computer automatically connected to a local Wi-Fi network without a password.

Finally got through it, thanks. Laptop automatically connected to a local WiFi that didn't have a password without asking. Was able to skip once I deselected that. - Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 25, 2024
