FromSoftware Head Hidetaka Miyazaki has been considering making an Elden Ring movie, but doubts whether the studio has enough experience.
"I see no reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, for example in a film format," he said. "But I don't think I or FromSoftware have enough knowledge and skills to produce something on a different medium. So a very strong partner will come into play here."
Elden Ring became a hit after its release in February 2022, selling 25 million copies. At the D.I.C.E. Awards, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco acknowledged it as the game of the year - similar accolades Elden Ring received at The Game Awards 2022 and The Steam Awards 2022. A year before its release, the game's publisher Bandai Namco stated that Elden Ring was being developed for "various other industries," leading many to interpret this as a hint at a potential movie or TV adaptation. However, there have been no official announcements thus far.
"Interest, undoubtedly, exists," Miyazaki continued, although he did not specify whether there is interest from FromSoftware, or perhaps the company has already been approached about a movie deal.
It's worth mentioning that the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree expansion was released on June 21. However, despite the DLC becoming the best on Metacritic and surpassing the eight-year achievement of The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, the reviews on Steam were mediocre. Negative user reviews pointed to poor performance and excessive difficulty as the main reasons for dissatisfaction.
