Microsoft has announced that the latest update for the Photos application in Windows will introduce a new image search feature.
When you open an image in the Photos app, you will see a button at the bottom of the window for the "Visual Search with Bing" feature. As the name suggests, this button will perform an image search using Microsoft's Bing search engine. When you click this button, a new tab will open in your default system browser conducting a Bing image search for the image currently displayed in Photos.
The image search results will include all kinds of images that resemble the searched item, as well as related products and content that may be useful. For instance, performing an image search on a photo of a celebrity could reveal a hat or jacket they are wearing.
This update also includes another handy feature: the ability to sync and view your iCloud photos on Windows 10. Users will have access to an "iCloud Photos" section on the left sidebar, where they can be prompted to install iCloud for Windows and log in with their Apple ID to sync iCloud photos. It's worth noting that Windows 11 users already have this capability, so this addition is exclusively for Windows 10.
Other enhancements in this update include improved navigation in the Gallery app, the option to always run Photos in the background, and the ability to right-click an image in File Explorer and immediately edit it in Photos.
Currently, this update is available to Windows 11 users as part of the Insider program. It will later be rolled out to Windows 10 users in the Beta and Release Preview channels, followed by a general release.
