On the eve of the Made by Google event scheduled for August 13, new information has emerged regarding the specifications of the upcoming Pixel 9 smartphone series. According to informed sources, all three models in their base versions will come with 128 GB of storage.
Even if Google maintains the same pricing as last year, this would imply that customers might have to spend $1000 for the basic configuration with 128 GB of built-in memory. This price point is unlikely to be considered reasonable in 2024.
The base model of the Pixel 9 will reportedly be available in 128 GB and 256 GB storage versions. Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL will be offered in configurations of 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB. Official pricing details have yet to be announced. However, considering recent industry trends, it is expected that the price of the Pixel 9 Pro XL may rise by $100 or more compared to last year's Pixel 8 Pro.
The only foldable smartphone, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, will come with 256 GB of built-in memory in its base configuration. A version with 512 GB of storage will also be released. Nevertheless, in certain regions like India, Google will only sell the 256 GB variant of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
It has also been revealed how much RAM the forthcoming smartphones will feature. The standard version of the Pixel 9 is expected to have 12 GB of RAM, while the Pro models will boast 16 GB of RAM.
Sources indicate that Google will slightly increase the charging speed for the Pixel 9. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro will be able to charge "up to 55% in about 30 minutes," while the Pixel 9 Pro XL will charge "up to 70% in approximately 30 minutes." These figures will be achieved using a 45W Google USB-C charger. Currently, Google only sells a 30W USB-C charger in the Google Store. Despite the increased charging speeds, Google’s smartphones still lag significantly behind many flagship devices from other manufacturers in this aspect.
All three standard models promise "24 hours of battery life" and up to 100 hours in Extreme Battery Saver mode. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, equipped with a 4650 mAh battery, claims to provide 72 hours of usage in extreme power-saving mode. However, its overall battery life is also expected to be 24 hours.
