Due to bugs and "lagging" Cyberpunk 2077 was poorly received at the start, the game even had to be canceled on Playstation. But one of the developers says that the failure taught a lot to CD Projekt Red.

Currently, the game is doing well, especially with the release of update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion. However, according to the lead quest designer of the game Pavel Sasko in an interview with The Gamer, the success was made possible thanks to the failed release of the main game.

"I believe that when you have scars, you should be proud of your scars and wear them. In my past, there were many difficulties, canceled games that I worked on, and then, of course, Cyberpunk. ... Phantom Liberty worked much better upon release because we completely changed the production style," Sasko says.

Sasko believes that the negative reception of Cyberpunk 2077 was a necessary blow to the team:

"It would have been impossible if the initial reception of the game wasn't as negative as it was, it changed me and us as a studio."

The Phantom Liberty expansion was released last September almost without any problems, the few existing errors were quickly fixed by subsequent updates. Although not everyone likes some changes in the DLC and versions of Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, they have given many players hours of exciting gameplay. By the end of last year, sales of Cyberpunk 2077 exceeded 25 million copies, and Phantom Liberty sold 4.3 million copies.
