Nevertheless, the game is said to be in "good shape."
Obsidian Entertainment has postponed the release of its new fantasy action RPG project, Avowed. Journalist Tom Warren revealed in his newsletter on The Verge's Notepad that the game, which was previously scheduled for 2024, will now be launched in early 2025.
Both Obsidian and Microsoft have yet to officially announce a specific release date for Avowed, only referring to it broadly as "2024." However, in June, a date of November 12 briefly appeared in the developers' blog before quickly disappearing.
Despite the delay, Warren's sources state that the development of Avowed is progressing well. The decision to postpone was made to allow the game some "breathing room" during a period when Xbox Game Pass will be overloaded with new titles.
The November release of Avowed would have faced competition from the highly anticipated GSC Game World project, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl, which was recently pushed to November 20. Additionally, Assassin's Creed Shadows and a new role-playing game from BioWare, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, are also expected around the same time.
In June, representatives of Obsidian informed Eurogamer that Avowed is in the final stages of development and entering the polishing phase.
On a positive note, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle from Bethesda is still slated for release in December 2024.
