Owners are reporting issues with the touchscreen of the Apple iPhone 16 Pro. During certain touches, the phone fails to register gestures and presses.
The touchscreen problem is observed in iOS 18 and iOS 18.1. It seems that the algorithm designed to reject accidental palm touches is malfunctioning— the problematic area is located near the edge of the screen, particularly around the camera control button. The software ignores touches for a brief moment when they occur in this zone.
“If skin accidentally touches the area near the new camera control button, the entire screen becomes unresponsive until pressure is released, except for the main panel. This is the only area that causes issues.”
Users speculate that the aggressive operation of the palm rejection algorithm is due to the thinner bezels. When the iPhone 16 Pro is in a case, the number of missed touches decreases.
Interestingly, everything works fine when the phone's screen is locked, indicating that the problem is indeed software-related. If this is the case, a fix from Apple should be expected soon.
