An enthusiast overclocked a CRT monitor to 700 Hz - but it's hard to play on it

A monitor with the highest refresh rate can be quite surprising, especially when it's the old CRT IIyama Vision Master Pro 512, overclocked to 700 Hz.

The YouTube channel RetroGamingBase has revisited the Vision Master before—they previously managed to overclock this particular monitor to 500 Hz. This is only 40 Hz less than the fastest gaming monitor, the Asus ROG Swift Pro PG248QP.

However, there's a catch: modern high-refresh gaming monitors support higher resolutions, while the IIyama only operates at 320 x 200 pixels with its 500 Hz setting. After successfully testing 600 Hz at 150p (during which the monitor refused to display the actual refresh rate in its built-in interface), the Vision Pro was able to run at 700 Hz with a resolution of 320 x 120.

After the initial tests with these settings, the experiment was halted to avoid damaging the device. It's not easy to find a good new CRT monitor, especially one as robust as this. The researcher is currently looking for another unit to conduct gaming tests. There are doubts on the channel that a computer will be able to correctly run Windows 11 on a monitor with such a low resolution.

According to the official page of the IIyama Vision Master Pro, it has a 22" diagonal. Other specifications were supposed to be in a PDF link that is no longer functional. Search results indicate a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 and an integrated four-port USB hub (luxurious!) with a claimed weight of 30 kg.
