The issue is about a video showing Russian soldiers surrendering, published on the channel of journalist and activist Sergey Sternenko back in 2022.

What's most interesting is that the video was blocked due to a complaint from Roskomnadzor — so essentially, YouTube moderators continue to cooperate with Russian regulators, considering their statements as valuable.

Another issue is that YouTube, like Google, continue to promote Russian content to Ukrainians. Since 2014, when Russia annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea and started the war in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian authors and users have repeatedly accused Google of privileging Russian content over Ukrainian in the Ukrainian segment of YouTube. There have also been several scandals with erroneous blocking of channels of Ukrainian authors on the platform. In March 2022, Ukrainian bloggers launched a social media flash mob #YouTubeKyiv with complaints that the Ukrainian segment of YouTube is managed by the "Moscow office" and urged Google to open a representation in Kyiv as soon as possible.
