The new Larian project, creators of Baldur's Gate 3, has the codename "Excalibur". Studio head Sven Vincke says he is still trying to figure out "what the hell it is."
In a recent interview with GamePressure, Vincke confirmed that the mysterious new project's "codename" is "Excalibur". This word appeared on the screen during his speech at the Digital Dragons conference earlier this month. However, when asked to provide a little more information about the project, Vincke said, "Frankly, we are still trying to figure out what the hell it is." It becomes a little clearer after another statement: "We have ideas. We have a lot of small fragments."
Responding to the question of whether "Excalibur" could be related to the Divinity series of games, Vincke was not ready to answer anything, but instead said, "If someone from Larian tells you right now that this will be the game, that would be a lie. They don't know, because we are trying to do a lot. We have ideas, but we are an iterative company. We try something."
These comments echo what Vincke has said several times last year: even if he tells us what Larian is working on next, it may become outdated within a few days. Baldur's Gate 3 was released last summer and was a huge commercial success with critics, but only in January Vincke said he had "finally figured out" the first act of his next project.
